Recent reports indicate that the PlayStation 5 Pro has yet to sell out in the United States or the United Kingdom, stirring up mixed reactions within the gaming community. Since its initial reveal, the PS5 Pro has been a divisive product, with some gamers appreciating the enhanced hardware while others criticize its high price point.

Announced in early September, the PS5 Pro is set for an official release on November 7, 2024, with pre-orders currently open. While the console will share the same game library as the original PlayStation 5, several titles are set to be enhanced for the PS5 Pro, including popular games like Alan Wake 2, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, The Last of Us Part 1 and 2, and No Man’s Sky.

Earlier this week, The Verge’s senior editor, Tom Warren, pointed out that the PS5 Pro has not yet sold out in either the US or the UK. According to Warren, the steep $700 price tag might be a factor deterring potential buyers. This observation sparked controversy, with Circana analyst Matt Piscatella responding that Warren should "stick to hyping AI," suggesting that an unrestricted edition console being available for pre-order isn't necessarily a bad thing. Piscatella later deleted this response but reposted it on BlueSky.

Despite the debate, it's too early to predict the PS5 Pro's success. The PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition quickly sold out, indicating some demand for the hardware, although many purchases seemed to come from scalpers aiming to resell at inflated prices. As Piscatella noted, being able to buy a console without turning to resellers is not a bad situation, especially considering the frustration caused by the lack of available PS5s during the original console's 2020 launch.
