New Trailer for Dragon Age: the Veilguard Highlights Qunari Companion and Grey Wardens

A new trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard puts the spotlight on the Qunari companion Taash, as well as the heroic Grey Warden faction. The trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard was unveiled during Sony's State of Play broadcast on September 24, 2024.

Excitement is growing for Dragon Age: The Veilguard as its October 31, 2024 release date approaches. With nearly a decade having passed since the last major Dragon Age release, many players might experience The Veilguard as their very first entry into BioWare's fantasy setting. Veteran fans have their own concerns, such as how the game will carry over choices from previous titles, especially since BioWare retired its original Dragon Age Keep system. However, despite these worries, Dragon Age is back in the spotlight for the first time in years.

BioWare used this opportunity to further promote the game with a new combat trailer at Sony's recent State of Play. The trailer showcases a combat encounter between the Veilguard, led by player protagonist Rook, and a Blighted Dragon. It also focuses on Taash, one of the player’s companions and a member of the unique Dragon Age faction, the Qunari.

The trailer depicts a Mage Rook fighting alongside Taash and Lucanis against the Blighted Dragon Corius the Icetalon, in an effort to draw out the corrupted elven goddess Ghilan'nain. During the fight, the player utilizes various ability combos to harry the dragon and even slow it mid-air at one point. Taash, being the only Qunari companion in Dragon Age: The Veilguard and a skilled dragon hunter, plays a crucial role by using her dragon-hunting abilities in sync with Rook's magic and Lucanis' assassination techniques.

The encounter's start also features the Grey Wardens in a supporting role. The Grey Wardens, who were the focal point of Dragon Age: Origins, have gradually taken a backseat to other factions like the mages and templars in recent games. However, the involvement of the resurgent elven gods with the Darkspawn seems to be pushing the Grey Wardens back into the story, particularly through the companion Davrin, an active Warden in The Veilguard.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is shaping up to be a strong return to form for both the Dragon Age series and BioWare, whose recent struggles, including the development of The Veilguard, have been widely publicized. Its success could mark a new chapter for the studio and revive a beloved franchise for a new generation.
