Destiny Mobile Game Still in Development, New Leak Confirms

The long-rumored Destiny mobile game, reportedly titled Destiny Rising, is still in development, according to a new leak. This comes after recent speculation that the unannounced project may have been canceled.

Destiny remains one of the most popular franchises in the free-to-play online FPS genre, with its latest expansion, The Final Shape, receiving rave reviews earlier this year. Rumors of a mobile game set in the Destiny universe first emerged in 2022, fueled by job listings that hinted at such a project. However, layoffs at developer Bungie in 2024 sparked concerns that the mobile game might have been scrapped.

According to insider Kurakasis, these fears have been allayed, as Bungie’s plans to bring the Destiny experience to mobile are still in motion. In a recent tweet, Kurakasis confirmed that the project has not been canceled, revealing the game is titled Destiny Rising and is being developed in partnership with Chinese studio NetEase.

Despite recent downsizing at Bungie, which resulted in the departure of several key executives, the studio’s mobile ambitions appear to be intact. This follows a significant round of layoffs in July, marking the second within a year. However, Bungie continues to hire for certain roles, signaling that projects like Destiny Rising are still progressing.

The rise of mobile gaming has seen major franchises like Call of Duty and Fortnite successfully transition from consoles and PCs to mobile platforms. Likewise, companies like Take-Two have expanded their mobile gaming portfolios, reflecting the growing market potential. Given these trends, it seems inevitable that IPs like Destiny would eventually make the leap to mobile devices.
