The theory suggests that there is a southern portion of the Kalos region that was not included in the final versions of the Generation 6 games. Based on northern France, the Kalos region features various towns and cities inspired by real-world locations, including the sprawling Lumiose City, which mirrors Paris in the Pokémon universe. The newly uncovered screenshot from early development reveals a different map of Kalos, confirming that the region was originally intended to represent all of France, including a southern section filled with several unused cities and locations.

This revelation has left many Generation 6 fans disappointed, lamenting the Kalos region that could have been. Fans have long speculated that a potential southern Kalos could have appeared in the much-discussed Pokémon Z, a third title in Generation 6 that never materialized. The area south of the known Kalos region has also been a topic of recent discussions, with enthusiasts theorizing that the Paldea region—based on Spain and Portugal—might actually connect to southern Kalos in the northeast, mirroring the real-world connection between France and Spain.

While this theory is widely accepted among fans, it remains speculative rather than established fact. The geographical parallels between the real world and the Pokémon universe make it seem likely, but official canon lacks concrete material to definitively illustrate how the various game regions interconnect. Nevertheless, fans will be revisiting Kalos next year in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which may provide additional insights into these aspects of the Pokémon world and its history.
