master Larian Discusses Baldur's Gate 3 Development Crunch

A senior official from Larian Studios has revealed that the development of Baldur's Gate 3 was not entirely free of crunch. However, the company managed to limit the amount of overtime work required, especially compared to its past projects. While working overtime is common in many professions, the gaming industry often takes this practice to extremes. In recent years, public awareness of the gaming industry's crunch culture has increased, prompting more companies to be transparent about their development practices. Larian Studios is the latest to address this topic. During a recent appearance at the Digital Dragons conference in Krakow, CEO Swen Vincke confirmed that some overtime was necessary to complete the critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3. "You will always have a little bit [of crunch] when you're trying to finish something, especially when there's so much complexity that needs to be brought together," Vincke explained.
